A Marion County sheriff’s deputy was shot in the leg Wednesday night in an exchange of gunfire at the Marathon /Kangaroo gas station located at 1940 SE 58th Avenue in Ocala.
Another man, 31-year-old Cristiaan Oliver Dubrino, has died as the result of the shootout.
Dubrino had been getting in and out of a vehicle with two handguns in his possession at about 7 p.m. when contact was made with him, according to a release from the Marion County Sheriff’s Office. Dubrino raised one of the handguns to his head. Deputies began to negotiate with him, ordering him to put down his weapons. He then pointed the other handgun toward deputies and began firing at them. Deputies returned fire and during this exchange, MCSO Patrol Sgt. Daniel Trammell was wounded. Both Trammell and Dubrino were transported to a local hospital where Dubrino later died. Trammell is now recovering at home.
Baseline Road and SE 20th Street were closed off in the aftermath of the shooting.
At the request of Marion County Sheriff Chris Blair, this investigation has been turned over to the Florida Department of Law Enforcement.
