John H. ‘Jack’ Steenburgh

John “Jack” Steenburgh, 73, of The Villages, Florida, passed away Monday, Feb 15, 2016 at the Leesburg Regional Hospital with his wife and children at his side.

Jack was born in Amsterdam, NY and was a 1960 graduate of Wilbur H. Lynch High School. He earned an A.A. in applied science from from Hudson Valley Community College, a B.S. in mechanical engineering from Union College, and was an engineer for 38 years at General Electric in their Large Steam Turbine Division.

Jack lived in Perth, NY for 37 years and served the local community as a member of the Perth Central School and Broadalbin–Perth Central School Boards of Education for 11 years, including one term as president. He was a Little League and Babe Ruth baseball coach, a member of the Perth Central School Booster Club, and a member of the Perth Youth Commission. After retirement in 2004, Jack bought a second home in The Villages, Florida, where he became a member of the Lynnhaven Neighbors, the Irish American Club, and the Celtic Club.

Jack is survived by his wife of 51 years, Janet Thompson Steenburgh of The Villages, FL, a son Jim, his wife Andrea, and their children Erik and Maria of Salt Lake City, UT, and a daughter, Jill Becker, her husband Rob, and their children Ally and Devin of Broadalbin, NY.

A celebration of his life will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday, February 20th at Laurel Manor Recreation Center, 1985 Laurel Manor Drive, The Villages, FL.
