The Villages Homeowners Association’s collected 36,964 pounds of old electronics on Saturday at Winn-Dixie at Lake Sumter Landing.
Combined with a VHA recycling drive last year, a total of 70,000 pounds of old electronics have been collected.
The VHA worked with MPact Services which manages and recycles old itmes according to specifications set out by the Environmental
Protection Agency. Hard drives of computers that were turned in are completely destroyed.
The overwhelming success of the recycling events has prompted the VHA to make this an annual event.
The yearly drive will likely take place in February, said Matt Friedland of the VHA who spearheaded the events.
