A woman in the Village of Piedmont was the victim of identity theft, with $4,669 in purchases made on a bogus Best Buy account in her name.
The woman reported on Thursday the fraudulent activity to the Marion County Sheriff’s Office.
In addition to the Best Buy account which had been opened on March 9, someone also tried to open accounts in her name at Nieman Marcus, Home Depot, Sears, Lowes and T&D Bank.
The woman’s Lifelock account intercepted the information. Best Buy declared the purchases fraudulent.
