The final week of the Winter 2016 season in the Central Florida League provided lots of softball action and changes in the league standings. At the end of the day two teams were tied for second place and four for third.
Previously sole possessor of 2nd place, Fross & Fross lost to 3 Amigos in one of the early games 21-14.
The Amigos were led by Dave Hinkley, who hit for the cycle and drew a walk. Manny Sanchez in the lead off spot had 3 hits, including a 2 run homer; and, last batter, John Wyks had a solo homer and drove in 2 runs. Rod Severson, Mark Hildebrand, Tom Fulton, and manager, Wayne Grunewald all had 3 hits on the day. Fross & Fross was led by Dave Pope’s 4 hits and 3 rbi’s. Jim Wheeler, Ed Chirumbolo, and Jim Joseph all had 3 hits in the loss.
The other early game saw Mulberry Integrative Medicine move up to tie for third by defeating Buffalo Crossing 14-13.
Mulberry, with acting manager Ed DeMaio at the helm, was led offensively by Ev Rhyner’s 3 hits and 2 each by: Ed Haith, Chuck Alexander, Paul Justice, John Kushner, and sub Jim Glover. Buffalo Crossing had 3 hits each by: John Hoover, Bob Fowler, and Will Kutter. Joe DeGeorge, Jim Wiegand, Joe Cataldi, Tom Winegarden, Roger Duncan, and Gary Arnold added 2 hits apiece as Buffalo outhit Mulberry 24-18.
Paul Davis Restorations moved into a tie for third with their win over Arden Jewelers 12-11.
Paul Davis had 3 hits from Tim Wilcox and Tom Aldridge; while, Don Melcher, Chick Cicatelli, Tom Farrell, Bob DePace, Jim Moyer, Mike Hughes, and Jeff Bekasi added 2 more hits each. Arden’s David Blandford had 3 hits, including a 2 run homer, to drive in 5 runs. Pitcher John Long had 3 hits as did manager Jim Allison. Chipping in 2 hits apiece were: Jim Kennedy, Pete Glowacki, and Roy Warter.
League champions Softball’s R Game overcame the hot Harlan Insurance team 13-6.
SRG got 3 hits from Jim Stencil, Dick Smith, and Bill Nisbet. Adding 2 hits each were: Scott Marshall and Bill Yeager. Harlan’s Bill Naasz had a triple and a solo homer to pace their offense. Bob Whiteley was the only other Harlan player to have more than one hit as SRG’s Ed Krisha surrendered only 11 hits in the win.
Synergy Wealth’s hopes of moving up in the standings were crushed as Perkins Restaurant came out ahead 10-8.
Perkins’ sub Joe Cataldi had 3 hits. Contributing 2 hits for the winners were: Bob Strolin, Jim Glover, Mike Hyott, manager, Vin Stebbins, Woody Wood, and sub pitcher, John Ashby. Synergy had 3 hits from sub Terry Cecil, while, Jim Creed, manager, Vernon Brooks, and Vinny Pezzullo had 2 each. Pezzullo had a solo homer in the 2nd inning. Dave Williams had only one hit; but, it was a 3 run homer to get Synergy within 2 runs at the end of 6 innings.
IHOP moved into a tie for second place with their 18-14 win over Babiarz Law.
IHOP was led by the four hits of Tim Healey and the three from Larry Williams, Ron Goldman, and Bill Reed. Babiarz had 3 hits by Ed Moriarity, Bud Ramsey, Doug Nantais, and John Charles. Pat Perkins drove in 2 runs with a pair of singles and John Plunkard drove in 3 with his 2 singles.
Central Florida begins its season ending tournament next week.
