A 26-year-old Oxford man with an admitted history of drug use was taken into custody at The Villages Regional Hospital and booked Wednesday at the Sumter County Detention Center.

Sumter County sheriff’s deputies had been called on March 19 to a home on County Road 227 where Nathan Michael Hearns resides. A woman in the home had called 911 when Hearns seemed to be having an adverse reaction to drugs he had taken, according to an arrest report from the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office. Hearns told a deputy he has been addicted to heroin for the past three years and shoots up two to three times a day.  A syringe was found and it tested positive for heroin. Hearns was transported by ambulance to TVRH.

He was booked Wednesday on a felony charge of drug possession and a misdemeanor charge of possession of drug equipment.

Bond was set at $3,000.
