CFL highlights week 14 of the Winter 2016 season saw the start of the Central Florida League’s post season tournament.
Mulberry Integrative Medicine defeated Arden Jewelers 17-12.
Mulberry’s hot bats were: Chuck Alexander (4-4), Ed Haith, George Loew, Mike Bernbach, and Tom Gilewski all with 3 hits. Arden got 3hits from Roy Warter; while, John Long, Pete Glowacki, John Meindl, Bob Nizlek, Tim Carroll, Jack Meagher, and manager, Jim Allison all had 2 hits.
Synergy Wealth came back with 5 runs in the bottom of the 7th to beat Perkins Restaurant 8-7.
Synergy was led by Dick Adams’ 3 hits with pitcher Gary Lewis and Jim Weigand chipping in 2 hits each. The winning runs came off a triple by Rick Duemler who cleared the bases. Perkins had 3 hits by Jim Morton, with Jim Glover, Ken Link, and sub Fred Hughes adding 2 hits each.
Paul Davis scored 5 runs in the bottom of the 6th and held on to defeat Babiarz Law 15-11.
Paul Davis had 3 hits from: Don Melcher, Tom Farrell, and Tom Aldridge, who had a 3 run homer and a triple driving 5 runs. Tim Wilcox added 2 hits and 2 rbi’s. Babiarz had 3 hit days from: Bud Ramsey, Chuck Mays, Felix Rodriguez, Pat Perkins, Ralph Furbush, and sub Will Kutter.
Humana easily defeated 3 Amigos 16-5, as the Amigos couldn’t get their offense going.
Humana had 4 hits from Bob Slaninka and Tom McGann had 3 hits including a solo homer to open the 7th inning. Bob Roth’s only hit of the day was a triple that drove in 3 runs to cap the 2nd inning for Humana. Tom Ramberg, Gary Luck, Ed Bergheimer, Chuck Bowman, Scott King, and Bob Ivison all had 2 hits. 3 Amigos hit in to three double plays. Manny Sanchez, Dave Hinkley, Rod Severson, Bill Pauldine, and John Wyks all had 2 hits to account for 10 of the Amigos 14 hits.
In the round of 8, the higher seeds won all but one game.
The upset of the day came from Synergy Wealth, who defeated IHOP 12-11 to reach the semi-finals.
Synergy was led by Rick Duemler, who had 4 hits with 3 doubles. John Reedy had 2 doubles and drove in 4 runs. Dick Adams had 3 hits, while Rick Fredieu, Vinny Pezzullo, Dan Kincaid, and Dave Williams all had 2 hits in the victory. IHOP’s Larry Williams had 4 hits, including a triple to start the 7th inning rally. Bob Cramer, Tim Healey, and Jerry Jensen had 3 hits in the loss.
The number one seed Softball’s R Game overcame Humana with a 5 run 6th inning to beat them 14-8.
SRG was led by Scott Marshall, Bill Yeagher, and Don Mulneix, who had 3 hits each. Dick Smith, Dennis Bauch, Ed Krisha, Bill Dunkley, Bill Nisbet, and Gerry Street all chipped in 2 hits in the balanced offense. Humana had 2 hits each from: Dave Oatley, Gary Luck, Ed Bergheimer, Chuck Bowman, Scott King, Bob Slaninka, and sub, Dave Hinkley.
Fross & Fross beats Paul Davis Restorations 23-9.
After failing to score in the bottom of the first, Fross & Fross scored 5 runs in the next 3 innings to pull away from Paul Davis. Fross was led by the four hits of John Buchanan and Dave Pope, while Ron Rowe, Jim Wheeler, Jim Joseph, Tom Bortle, and Mike Labetti each had 3 hits. Manager, Al Deibler had 2 hits and a sacrifice fly to drive in 4 runs. Paul Davis had 3 hits from Don Melcher and Bob Buchanan. Tim Wilcox, Bob Kelly, Tom Aldridge, and manager, Jeff Bekasi added 2 hits apiece.
Harlan Insurance defeated Mulberry Integrative Medicine 14-5 in the last game of the day.
Harlan pitcher, Fred Hughes had 3 hits as did Ray Bedford and Tom Ceglie. Bill Naasz had two hits and drove in 3 runs, while Bob Whiteley had a home run and a single to account for 2 more runs. Sponsor, Bruce Harlan also had 2 hits and a rbi. Mulberry was held to 10 hits with Paul Justice being the only player to get more than a hit.
Next Tuesday will see the semi-final games and the championship game as the CFL season comes to an end.
