A former Wildwood High School basketball standout has been arrested on a felony sex charge involving a six-year-old boy.

Nathaniel Lee “Nate” Maggard, 19, was taken into custody Tuesday by Wildwood police.

He is accused of kissing and inappropriately touching the six-year-old boy in September at the Peppertree Apartments in Wildwood.

The pair had been playing basketball at the gym at the apartment complex. Maggard locked the child in a bathroom at the gym and told him he would have to “make out” with Maggard if he wanted to be freed, according to an arrest report from the Wildwood Police Department. That’s when Maggard kissed the child and put his tongue in his mouth, the arrest report indicated. They then resumed playing basketball. After the basketball game, Maggard and the child went to the child’s apartment in the complex. When they were on the couch, Maggard allegedly touched the child inappropriately.

The child was interviewed April 12 at the Child Advocacy Center.

Maggard was booked at the Sumter County Detention Center.
