Embattled cardiologist Dr. Asad Qamar has filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection.
Qamar, who has practiced in The Villages, Summerfield and Ocala, has been buried with lawsuits in the wake of a U.S. Justice Department investigation. He has been accused of bilking Medicare. Reports showed he collected $18 million from Medicare in 2012, making him the second-highest doctor recipient of Medicare dollars at the time.
