Some of the members of the Amenity Authority Committee are interested in exploring the idea of getting paid for their work.
AAC members Carl Bell, Don Deakin and John Wilcox on Wednesday indicated they would like to see legal counsel explore the idea of getting some compensation for their efforts. AAC Chair Ann Forrester said she believed the committee to be volunteer in nature and said she would not accept pay for her work. AAC member Gary Moyer, who represents the Developer, said he is not interested in accepting compensation. AAC member Lowell Barker said he would not accept pay, but said he was willing to agree to have legal counsel look at the issue.
Wilcox said their work “goes well beyond the definition of a committee” and they control a budget of $40 million.
“That far surpasses the budgets of community development districts,” Wilcox said.
Deakin, who sits on both the AAC and CDD 4 boards, said he spends far more time on AAC work, for which he is not compensated, than he does on CDD 4 work.
CDD supervisors are paid $200 per meeting and can earn up to $4,800 per year.
Like CDD supervisors, AAC members are elected by residents.
The question is whether the statute would permit pay for AAC members.
