The Wallace family started the Red Nose celebration a little early this year. Red Nose Day is a campaign dedicated to helping children and having fun. Proceeds benefit children and young people in the US and some of the poorest communities in the world.

The campaign’s official Red Nose Day is Thursday, May 26; however the Wallace family kicked off the campaign when they were all together recently.

Two of Jerry and Pauline Wallace’s children and five of their grandchildren, ranging in age from one to seven, were in The Villages at the end of April for spring break. Jerry had purchased the noses at Walgreen’s by making a donation. While at the Sumter Landing children’s park one day during their visit “Pop” pulled out the noses to the delight of all the children.

“The older ones understood they were helping children in need,’ said Jerry.

He and his wife have been in the Villages since 2007, but because of strong family ties they have kept their house in New Jersey.

“We visited friends a couple of times in 05 and 06 and I said we have to get a place here,” said Jerry.

He and Pauline live in the Village of Amelia.

“We go back and forth,” said Jerry.

He had just gone up a couple of weeks ago to participate in the Pancake Breakfast for the local fire department he has been running for the last 34 years. And they are back now preparing their Toms River house for a big family weekend.

“We have a full house when they are here and we enjoy it,” said Jerry. “We have the option of using my sister’s house when they are here, but everyone wants to stay with Grammy and Pop.”

Proceeds from Walgreen’s Red Nose Day go to the Boys and Girls Club, Gavi Alliance, charity:water and National Council of La Raza.
