A speeding driver who tried to lie about his identity, was foiled by a Lady Lake police officer armed with high technology.

An officer clocked Herbert L. McClain, 26, of Leesburg, driving 55 miles per hour in a 40 mph zone Saturday morning on U.S.  Hwy. 27/441. When the officer pulled McClain over, he gave the officer a false name. The officer then had McClain put his thumb on a Rapid ID device which revealed McClain’s true identity. McClain then admitted that he has been classified as a habitual driving offender. His most recent suspension came on March 27, 2013 for 60 months.

He was arrested on charges of driving while license suspended (habitual) and giving false information to a law enforcement officer.

He was booked at the Lake County Jail. He was released after positing $1,500 bond.
