The Lady Lake Police Department will be getting five new in-car video systems to replace obsolete systems in five patrol cars.
The units being replaced are 10 years old, Chief Chris McKinstry told commissioners Thursday night.
In addition to the age of the units, they are additionally problematic because of a cumbersome reboot and passcode entry process, the chief said. The process could slow an officer’s response to an emergency situation.
The new units, which will cost a total of $23,869, will be paid for with money saved thanks to some recent retirements within the department.
The commission unanimously approved the chief’s request.
