
Marvin Harold Jasper, 91, passed away on Thursday, June 9, 2016 at his home in The Villages, FL. He was born on October 21, 1924 in Brooklyn, New York to Jules J. Jasper and Anna Stoffer Jasper. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II in the Pacific. He attended St. John’s University and Brooklyn Law School, and practiced law until being appointed a Judge. After retiring from the bench, he again practiced law, until he retired to The Villages in 1995. He was a member of the Opera Club of The Villages, and was founder and the first chairman of the Harold S. Schwartz Music Scholarship Fund. He was a founding member of the New Jewish Congregation and of Temple Shalom, where he taught a Bible study class, gave sermons, and sometimes led services.
He enjoyed reading, studying, writing and music. He was very social, often dining out with friends, and will be remembered for his gift of storytelling. Judge Jasper was a diehard fan of the New York Jets and New York Mets. When he lived in Staten Island, he coached Pop Warner Football. He loved playing golf and bowling, and had won gold medals in the Senior Games. He was a member of the American Legion, and of the Jewish War Veterans.
Judge Jasper is survived by his wife Ann (nee Berchielli); his daughters Susan Feldman Yatkowitz (Bryan) of Port St. Lucie, Florida, and Joanne DePaolo (Gregory) of Matawan, New Jersey; grandchildren Seth Feldman, Alex Feldman, Matthew Feldman, Erica DePaolo and Keith DePaolo; and his brother-in-law Joseph Berchielli (Linda) of Arnold, Maryland; and nephews Stephen Berchielli (Jess) and Daniel Berchielli.
Services will be held at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, June 15, 2016 at Temple Shalom, 13563 CR 101 in Oxford, Florida. Burial will be at Florida National Cemetery, Bushnell, Florida with full military honors immediately following services. Shiva will be held at Temple Shalom at 4 p.m. following the Internment.
