
Richard Gerard Roy, 83, passed away on June 29 at his home in The Villages, Florida, with the help and support of Cornerstone Hospice Home Care. Born in Tarrytown, N.Y., he attended St. Theresa Catholic School in Tarrytown, and then Cardinal Hays High School in the Bronx, N.Y. After graduation he enlisted in the Navy at 17, during the Korean War. He then went to Miami, FL after leaving the Navy and graduated from the University of Miami, FL., where he met his wife Carole of 61 years. He then attended Law School at American University in Washington D.C. After graduating from Law school he was a contract negotiator for health research at N.I.H. He joined Chrysler Corporation in 1964 where he also negotiated contracts in Health Insurance and Benefits. Richard retired from Chrysler in 1994 then purchased a motorhome and with his wife traveled to 49 states in about 12 years and especially loved the trip to Alaska. Another favorite vacation was the trip to Australia and New Zealand. Through the years he belonged to several clubs including Cavaliers, Lions Club, Michigan Republican Club and was proud of being a delegate to the Republican Convention in 1992. He was a member of D.E.S.A Destroyer Escort Sailors Association worked on restoring the USS Slater in Albany, N.Y. It is a WWII destroyer now restored as a museum in Albany, NY.
In The Villages he was a member of the ROMEO Club and The Morven Mixer Social Club. He also loved playing golf.
Dick and Carole have 6 children and he was very involved with coaching girls’ softball, boys’ baseball and basketball in their young years. He was a wonderful family man and was most proud of raising 6 children and of their accomplishments. Dick is survived by his loving wife Carole of 61 years. Brother of Deborah (Chuck) Perlick Mt. Lebanon, PA.

The family will receive relatives and friends at a visitation to be held at Hiers-Baxley Funeral Services 1511 Buenos Aires Blvd., The Villages on Tuesday, July 5, 2016 from 4 to 6 p.m. A Mass of the Resurrection will be held on Wednesday, July 6, 2016 in St. Timothy Catholic Church, The Villages at 8:30 a.m. Burial with Military Honors will follow in Florida National Cemetery, Bushnell, FL.
