A restaurant, stores and offices are planned for a 14-acre site one-third mile west of Brownwood on the north side of State Road 44.

At a meeting Tuesday of the Wildwood Planning and Zoning Board, Special Magistrate Archie O. Lowry Jr. recommended that the Wildwood City Commission approve a site plan for the project. The land was annexed to Wildwood over a year ago.

Known as Freedom Plaza, the development will include five retail buildings with 51,000 square feet, seven building pads for 35,172 square feet of office space and 6,000 square feet for the future restaurant.

The master plan calls for more than 250 parking spaces, retail buildings ranging from 4,200 to 15,000 square feet and offices of nearly 6,000 square feet each. A water detention pond will be installed at the rear of the property.

Project engineer Keith Riddle of Riddle-Newman Engineering of Leesburg said construction could begin within 60 days of approval. Besides the Wildwood commission, the development also requires approval by the Southwest Florida Water Management District.
