A couple armed with a stolen purse and a license plate snatched from a car in The Villages were arrested Thursday afternoon at Bank of America on Parr Drive.

The couple was in a white Jeep and went through the drive-up at the bank across from Southern Trace shopping plaza, trying to cash a $1,250 check. A woman in the Jeep, 18-year-old Caitlyn Christine Boyle of Port Orange, sent in the bank tube a check, driver’s license and bank card. The bank tracked down the customer assigned to the bank card and she informed bank personnel she was in Orlando, not in the drive-through lane. The customer said her purse had been stolen from her vehicle on July 3. Boyle and the driver of the vehicle, 35-year-old William Robert Brown of Port Orange, were arrested on charges of possession of stolen property, fraud and larceny. Brown is also facing a charge of driving while classified as a habitual traffic offender.

A Sumter County sheriff’s deputy also discovered a license plate had been placed over the license plate of the couple’s Jeep. The deputy found that the license plate had been stolen from a car parked at Southern Trace shopping plaza.

Both were booked at the Sumter County Detention Center. Brown’s bond was set at $13,000. Boyle’s bond was set at $6,000.
