To the Editor:
I know there have been a number of letters to the editor expressing anger and disbelief that The Villages would force people into the United Healthcare Medicare Advantage Plan. I sympathize, but frankly I am not surprised. The central objective of the developer has and always will be to sell houses through whatever means necessary. One of those is the mantra of “America’s Healthiest Hometown.” The true hypocrisy in all of this is the “bait and switch” mentality behind it all. Whether it be the promise of Marcus Welby or Moffit it is all the same. It is no more than cheap advertising to sell homes. In short, it is no better than the ambulance chasing attorneys we see on TV or the charlatan car dealers pushing their product. The sooner we all realize that this is a big profit making business not some philanthropy the less shocked and appalled we will be down the road.
