As Community Development District 1 supervisors opted not to take advantage of new powers to enforcement parking rules, a resident said she fears escalation of a “parking war” in her villa unit.
None of the CDDs, thus far, have opted to take advantage of new powers granted to them under Chapter 190. The new towing powers were the subject of a workshop last month you can read about HERE.
Anna May Miller on Friday morning told CDD 1 supervisors said she is fearful of the escalating tensions in Villa Valdez over abuse of supplemental parking.
She said residents are using the parking areas as a place to store their second car or golf cart.
She said it is problematic for residents who have guests over and wind up with nowhere for them to park.
“Every space is taken,” she said.
She said those spots are habitually occupied by the same vehicles.
One resident told Miller he was going to go and park his car in front of the house of one of the offenders. She discouraged him from doing so.
“There’s going to be a fight there sooner or later,” she warned CDD 1 supervisors.
District Counsel Valerie Fuchs had cautioned CDD supervisors about “unintended consequences” of enforcing powers to tow vehicles. Any call could result in a towed vehicle.
“If you had a card party, your guests would be at risk of being towed,” Fuchs said.
CDD 1 Supervisor Kathy Porter advised Miller to hold a neighborhood meeting.
“There are people who aren’t interested in listening,” Miller said.
