A 57-year-old nurse arrested after a night of drinking pitchers of beer has been sentenced in connection with her arrest on a charge of driving under the influence.

Leona Mae Fleming, of Lady Lake, had been driving a SUV shortly after 1 a.m. April 27 on U.S. Hwy. 27/441 when she was pulled over by a Lady Lake police officer.

The police officer suspected she had been drinking. She failed field sobriety exercises and provided breath samples registering .128 and .130 blood alcohol content. She admitted to the officer that she and a friend had consumed two pitchers of beer, according to the arrest report.

She had worked at area hospitals, including The Villages Regional Hospital, at the time of her arrest.

On Sept. 1 in Lake County Court, Fleming was ordered to serve 12 months probation and will lose her driver’s license for one year. She was also ordered to perform 50 hours of community service and was ordered not to consume or possess alcohol or illegal substances.

Fleming was represented by attorney Jaimie Washo.
