A 55-year-old man living in the Oakland Hills subdivision was arrested Tuesday night after allegedly attacking a woman and then resisting arrest.
David Robert Smith is facing charges of battery and resisting arrest after Sumter County sheriff’s deputies were called to his home at about 11:30 p.m. Tuesday. A woman who had tried to get away from him, told deputies he had grabbed her necklace and ripped it off her neck, according to an arrest report. He then pushed her and knocked her to the ground, the report indicated. It appeared he was intoxicated.
After he had been handcuffed by deputies and was asked to get into the back of a patrol car, he became belligerent and would not comply with commands. Force ultimately had to be used in order to sit him in the rear of a patrol car, the report indicated.
He was booked at the Sumter County Detention Center on $1,500 bond.
