There appears to be some residual anger over the GOP vice presidential visit last month that shut down Savannah Center.
Amenity Authority Committee Chair Ann Forrester fielded questions at Friday’s Community Development District 2 meeting about Mike Pence’s Sept. 17 visit.
She’s already had questions put to her by residents about the closure of that day of the Savannah Center, including the swimming pool.
She said it was not an item on which the AAC had the authority.
“Once the Secret Service got involved, we didn’t have much say. He’s a sitting governor. As such, he gets certain protection. So they took the whole building,” she said.
CDD 2 Supervisor Marty Rothbard asked whether a Democratic candidate would have received the same treatment. He asked if a Democrat would have even be allowed to rent a room.
“We have to rent to anybody and everybody. If a Democrat wanted to use it, we’d have to allow it,” said District counsel Valerie Fuchs.
