The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) recently issued the final determination on revisions to the flood insurance rate maps for parts of unincorporated Marion County. The Special Flood Hazard Areas, also known as floodplains, will be removed from over 6,000 parcels. The revised FIRMs will become effective on April 19, 2017.
These areas where the revisions will be made are primarily west of Interstate 75. Parcels may be identified online using the Marion County interactive map at MarionCountyFl.org/maps. The 2008 FIRMs will remain in effect until April 19, 2017. Property owners are advised to consult their mortgage lender when considering changes to their flood insurance policy.
