State Sen. Alan Hays has been elected Lake County Supervisor of Elections.
Hays on Tuesday collected 55 percent of the vote, easily outdistancing rivals Christopher Flint, who garnered 32 percent of the vote, and Scott Larson, who collected 12 percent of the vote.
Hays, a Republican from Umatilla, had pursued the presidency at Lake-Sumter State College but was eliminated in an early cut of candidates. He then focused on the Supervisor of Elections Office.
He will succeed Emogene Stegall, a living legend in Lake County who was originally elected to the post in 1972.
