A neighbor of Villages Rehab off County Road 466 has lodged a complaint against the facility.
Pierre Fortin, who lives on Via San Polo which backs up against Villages Rehab, told Lady Lake commissioners on Monday night that the facility’s delivery and dumpster schedule has gotten “out of control.”
He said that the trucks arrive between 3 and 7 a.m. and are very noisy.
“We all know what dumpsters sound like when they are being emptied,” Fortin said.
He said his family has been woken from their sleep by backup alarms and other noise from the trucks.
“ A refrigerator trucks show up, and the driver has to keep the engine running. Then the driver has to rev up the engine to keep things cool,” Fortin said.
He said it’s been a problem since the facility opened in 2013.
Town Manager Kris Kollgaard said contact has been made with Waste Management and the problem has been addressed. The town has some leverage with Waste Management as it has a contract with the waste hauler.
However, the town has virtually no control over the noise made by the delivery trucks as it does not have a noise ordinance.
