A University of Florida business professor who has questioned the need for the Federal Communications Commission has joined President-elect Donald Trump’s transition team.
Mark Jamison, director of UF’s Public Utility Research Center, is joining the transition team focusing on the FCC, which regulates radio, television, wire, satellite and cable communications.
Last year, the agency adopted net neutrality, which forces service providers and regulators to treat all Internet data the same.
“Most of the original motivations for having an FCC have gone away,” Jamison has written. “Telecommunications network providers and ISPs are rarely, if ever, monopolies.”
