An 83-year-old Village of Del Mar man died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound on the day after Christmas.
The man, who lived at a home on Bolivar Street, called 911 at about 10 a.m. and told a dispatcher he was going to shoot himself. The dispatcher heard the gunshot, according to an incident report from the Lady Lake Police Department.
An officer responded to the residence and found the front door unlocked. The officer found the man in a utility room and a .22-caliber gun was found nearby.
The man left a note on his kitchen table as well as other important papers. The man had a relative who lived nearby and she told police that the man had breathing difficulties and other health problems. The relative said the man had grown frustrated by his ongoing health problems.
EMS and the Medical Examiner’s office also responded to the scene.
