The Central Florida League opened a new softball season last Tuesday with a slate of six games.
Softball’s R Game pulled out a win over IHOP 8 – 7 with a five run seventh inning.
SRG was led by Jim Ritchie’s 3 hits. Adding two hits were: Jim Stencil, Scott Marshall, Jerry Street, Bill Mitchell, and Mark Schiffhauer. IHOP got three hits from sub Randy Murgittroyd and Ron Goldman. Wayne Mallory smacked two triples and Jack Finley, Jim Lambert and Tom Bent had two hits each.
Ardens Jewelers built an early lead and held off new team CFL CarePlus 14-10.
Rod Severson and Dan Kincaid led Ardens with three hits; while, John Meindl, Bob Cramer, George Kennedy, Gene Guerriero had two hits. Bill Reed also had two hits one of which was a two run homer in the second inning. CarePlus got three hits from Larry Yoder. Contributing two hits were: Manny Sanchez, Don Brozick, Dale Neff, Mike Labetti, and Tom Brock.
Harlan Insurance clinched their win over Humana 16-14 by scoring five runs in the top of the seventh holding Humana in the bottom to only one run.
Harlan’s Don Melcher had four hits and Chuck Bowman, Fred Hughes, Bruce Harlan, Charles Clare, and sub Dave Hinkley added three hits each. Humana got three hits from Bob Roth. Jim Gordon stroked a double and a triple and Bob Nizlek had two hits.
Palm Ridge Dental held Babiarz Law to two runs and wins 8-2.
Palm Ridge scored four runs in the first and scored in the next three innings to build up an 8-0 lead. Palm Ridge had three hits from John Goulet and Mike Jeffries. Ed Haith, Pat Perkins, George Loew, and pitcher Gary Luck had two hits each. Gary Nicolay hit two sacrifice flies to score two runs. Babiarz’s John Charles had a pair of doubles and a single to lead his team. Larry Williams, Carlos Lopez, and sub Bill DiCarlo added two hits each in the losing effort.
Fross & Fross scored five runs in the first and didn’t look back as they defeated Buffalo Crossings 12-5.
Last season’s batting champ, Jack Meagher, went three for three to lead Fross. Ron Rowe, Terry Yanny, Randy Bowen, Tim Healy, Ralph Furbush, and Gary DePalma had two hits for the winners. One of DePalma’s hits was a two run homer to end the first inning. Buffalo Crossings had three hits apiece from: Ed Chirumbolo, Jim Wiegand, and Jim Harrison. John Leone and Roger Duncan tossed in two hits while Howard Charney had a solo homer to start the top of the seventh inning.
Paul Davis Restoration holds on in the seventh to beat Synergy Wealth 6-5.
Leading 6-1 starting the home half of the seventh Paul Davis gave up hits to the first four batters before the defense stiffened up to get the win. Leading Paul Davis with four hits was Bob Kelly. Tom Ramberg and Don Mulneix contributed three hits, and pitcher Gary Lewis drove in two runs with a triple. Synergy was led by Vince Pezzullo’s three hits. Jim Creed , John Reedy, and Rick Fredieu chipped in two hits. The league’s other new team FBC Mortgage had a bye and kept score.
