The Town of Lady Lake will fill in potholes on a street in The Villages with disputed ownership.
In February, Historic Side resident Lowell Barker complained to the Lady Lake Commission about the condition of Wales Plaza.
That prompted an inspection by Town Manager Kris Kollgaard.
“Those potholes are affecting our residents,” she reported to commissioners on Monday night. “And it’s a safety issue.”
However, the 300 feet of Wales Plaza is not the responsibility of the town.
Years ago, The Villages deeded the roadway over to Lake County, but that the county does not have any record of it, Kollgaard said. To this day, neither side will admit to ownership. Therefore the roadway has been sorely neglected.
Repairing the potholes will cost the town about $500.
Town officials warned that The Villages and Lake County should not view this as the town’s willingness to adopt the orphaned roadway.
“We can’t take this on forever and ever,” said Commissioner Dan Vincent.
