A Community Development District 1 supervisor on Friday offered praise for residents who haven’t resorted to cutting back overgrowth at a preserve to improve their view.
Supervisor Kathy Porter publicly thanked residents who have shown restraint and she admitted she knows they are frustrated by invasive species which have taken over the Hudson Morse Parr Preserve. “It keeps on progressing. It’s like something from a science fiction movie,” said Villager Bob Eisenhauer who lives near the overgrown preserve.
Resident Mary Correl cited a recent article in the Villages Daily Sun regarding the danger of wildfires in the area. She said she wants the fire chief to make an assessment of the danger of fire in the area.
District Manager Janet Tutt said Fire Chief Edmund Cain is “very watchful” along with the entire Villages Public Safety Department.
The CDD 1 board has budgeted $100,000 for a major cut, but is waiting to finalize a plan that would hopefully receive the blessing of the Southwest Florida Water Management District. The CDD 1 board wants to make the most of the opportunity.
An allowable winter cut was not performed, but Sam Wartinbee of District Property Management said that cut should begin on Monday.
