Villages Elementary of Lady Lake poster winners help spread message of water conservation

The Town of Lady Lake and the Florida Governmental Utility Authority sponsored a water awareness poster contest at the Villages Elementary of Lady Lake during the month of April celebrating Water Conservation Month. Approximately 430 students in first, second and third-grade levels participated through their art class.

Winners were announced at Monday evening’s Lady Lake Commission meeting.

“Each week during April students learned the importance of preserving this precious resource and ways they can make a difference in their community,” said Michelle B. Harris, community service representative with the Florida Governmental Utility Authority.

At the end of the month the school selected the top 10 posters from each of the three grade levels. Those posters were brought to Town Hall and judged by a committee of 10. 

“There was a tremendous amount of support from the community in the form of 15 sponsorship donations,” Harris said.

All 30 students received a water conservation bag filled with all kinds of goodies from sponsors.

The nine winning posters will be on display along with the sponsor banner at the Lady Lake Library until the end of  June.

1^st Prizes – Bicycle/Helmet donated by the Lady Lake Police Department

2^nd Prizes – $65 Gift Cards donated by Center State Bank and Claudia Jean Consulting

3^rd Prizes- $40 Movie Tickets/Popcorn Gift Set donated by Paramount Urgent Care

Chick-fil-A provided free kids meals coupons/sunglasses and brought their special guest to assist with presenting  prizes.
