A 30-year-old Wildwood man was arrested after defying commands from a law enforcement officer during a traffic stop in which drugs were discovered.
Dennis Victor Lohfink Jr. had been at the wheel of a Ford pickup shortly after 6 p.m. Wednesday when a Sumter County sheriff’s deputy noted the vehicle’s headlights and windshield wipers were not activated despite the fact it was raining. His windshield also had a large crack in it.
During a traffic stop on State Road 44, a K-9 unit arrived and the dog alerted on the vehicle. The deputy asked Lohfink to step out of his vehicle, which he refused to do.
Lohfink refused to open his locked door and told deputies they didn’t have the right to enter his vehicle. He repeatedly ignored verbal commands to open the door and began to dial a phone number on his cell phone, according to an arrest report. He was ordered to open the door under threat they would break his window and remove him by force. Lohfink then opened the door, but still refused to exit. Deputies removed him from the vehicle and placed him in handcuffs.
A search of the vehicle turned up methamphetamine packaged in two small individual bags, a zippered pouch containing glass smoking pipes, and two tie-dyed containers which held marijuana wax concentrate.
Lohfink was arrested on charges of drug possession, possession of drug paraphernalia and resisting arrest. He was booked at the Sumter County Detention Center on $6,000 bond.
