A 64-year-old Villager who said she had consumed four beers was arrested Tuesday afternoon after a traffic stop in the parking lot of Hope Lutheran Church.
Susan Vicki Schmidt had been spotted driving a black Volkswagen shortly after 4 p.m. when her vehicle swerved in and out of her lane, according to an arrest report from the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office.
The deputy initiated a traffic stop on Schmidt’s vehicle in the church parking lot.
It appeared Schmidt had been drinking, and she admitted that she had consumed four beers. She failed field sobriety exercises that were conducted in the church parking lot. She initially declined to provide a breath sample, but then blew into the Intoxilyzer on three separate occasions, but was unable to physically meet the breath volume standard for the test, the arrest report indicated.
An inventory of her vehicle turned up four unopened Bud Light cans in a small cooler on the passenger floorboard of the car. A criminal history check revealed a prior conviction for DUI in 2008 in Missouri.
She was arrested on a charge of driving under the influence and booked at the Sumter Country Detention Center on $2,000 bond.
