A Memorial Mass will be held this week to remember a 79-year-old man who died last week after his golf cart was hit by a car earlier this month in The Villages.
The Memorial Mass for Richard Jerome “Dick” Bolender will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Wednesday, June 21 at St. Mark the Evangelist Church. It will be followed by a gathering in the social hall.
He died June 13 from injuries suffered in the accident on June 7 in the Village of Glenbrook.
Bolender had been at the wheel of a 2000 Parr Car at 9:50 a.m., westbound on Talley Ridge Drive and pulled into the automobile lane to make room for a pedestrian, according to an accident report from the Florida Highway Patrol.
A 2005 Buick LeSabre driven by 43-year-old Tara Malara of The Villages had been westbound behind the golf cart and struck it when it entered her lane, the report indicated. The golf cart struck a curb and overturned. Bolender was ejected from the golf cart which overturned onto him.
Malara, and a two-year-old girl traveling in the car with her, escaped injury.
