Two area restaurants were forced to close this past week after failing health inspections.
Zellies Pub in Mount Dora was shut down on June 28 due to rodent activity, according to the Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation. A dead rat was found under a three-bay sink in the kitchen, according to the inspector’s report. Other violations included food stored on the floor, including cans of potatoes. There was also standing water in the bottom of a reach-in cooler.

Eduardo’s Lokos Tacos on Alfred Street in Tavares was forced to close for three days due to roach activity.
Live roaches were found in the kitchen area, according to the inspector’s report. In addition, the inspector discovered a stained/soiled cutting board and found that hand-washing opportunities for employees were limited. There was no hot water and there were items stacked in a sink that was to be available for employee handwashing.
