A 49-year-old Summerfield woman, already on probation, was arrested Monday after drug equipment was discovered in a Ford expedition she was driving.
Kathleen Rae Smith was pulled over shortly before 11 a.m. at U.S. Hwy. 441 and County Road 109 after it was discovered that the vehicle she was driving had an expired registration. She told the Sumter County sheriff’s deputy making the traffic stop that she had just purchased the vehicle and was in the process of registering it. However, she could not produce a bill of sale.
During a search of the vehicle, a spoon with a brownish residue was discovered. The residue tested positive for heroin.
She was arrested on a charge of possession of drug equipment and issued a citation for no valid registration.
It was also discovered that she is already on probation.
She was booked at the Sumter County Detention Center.
