Residents of the Greenwood Villas say they are concerned about mold and rats at a vacant home.
The residents expressed their concerns Friday afternoon before the Community Development District 4 Board of Supervisors.
“This home has been uninhabited for over a year,” said Ken Tashjy, who lives next door to the property in question at 7586 SE 170th Longview Lane in the Village of Calumet Grove.

A complaint was received about the property on May 1 regarding overgrown weeds and shrubbery.
Community Standards has verified that the utilities are current. When a certified letter was sent to the address, the return notice was signed by someone other than the property owner from a California address.
For the moment, Community Standards will be addressing the complaint about weeds and shrubbery. If the property is not brought into compliance within three days, a series of fines will kick in. For the time being, the District will maintain the property.
CDD 4 Supervisor Jim Murphy urged the residents to be patient.
“We don’t give up on these things. We do have to follow the letter of the law. So it takes time,” he said.
