An Ocala man was arrested early Monday after he was caught driving while his license was suspended.
A Marion County sheriff’s deputy was conducting a routine patrol in the area of the 5100 block of E. Silver Springs Boulevard when he ran the tag of a red Nissan car in the parking lot of the Kangaroo gas station located at 5182 E. Silver Spring Boulevard, according to an arrest report.
A computer check revealed that the registered owner of the vehicle had a non-valid driver’s license. After the vehicle drove away from the gas station and headed eastbound on NE 24th Street, the deputy conducted a traffic stop on the vehicle in the 2400 block of NE 58th Avenue and made contact with the driver, 43-year-old Christopher Shayne La Londe of Ocala. The deputy asked La Londe if his license was suspended, in which La Londe advised that if it was, “it was due to his girlfriend not paying the insurance on his vehicle.” The deputy ran La Londe’s driver’s license number on a teletype, which revealed that his license was suspended on July 27 of this year due to a financial responsibility suspension. The deputy asked La Londe if he knew that if he didn’t pay the vehicle’s insurance that his license would be suspended, in which La Londe replied that he thought so and had a “pretty good idea that it would.” La Londe acknowledged that the vehicle’s insurance had not been paid and that his license was suspended.
La Londe was placed under arrest and was transported to Marion County Jail. Bond was set at $500.
