A former Wildwood High School basketball player has been transferred to the Florida Department of Corrections to begin serving an eight-year prison sentence in an inappropriate touching case at the Peppertree Apartments.

Nathaniel Lee “Nate” Maggard, 21, was arrested in 2016 on two counts of lewd or lascivious conduct in a case involving a six-year-old boy.

He was transferred this past Wednesday to the Department of Corrections and was initially being held at the Central Florida Reception Center in Orlando.

His scheduled release date is April 24, 2024.

Maggard had been accused of kissing and inappropriately touching the boy in September 2015 at the Peppertree Apartments in Wildwood. The pair had been playing basketball at the gym at the apartment complex. Maggard locked the child in a bathroom at the gym and told him he would have to “make out” with Maggard if he wanted to be freed, according to an arrest report from the Wildwood Police Department. That’s when Maggard kissed the child and put his tongue in his mouth, the arrest report indicated. They then resumed playing basketball. After the basketball game, Maggard and the child went to the child’s apartment in the complex. When they were on the couch, Maggard allegedly touched the child inappropriately.

Maggard had been in jail since his arrest in April 2016.
