To the Editor:
I have lived here in the Villages a little over a year and I thought it was a very nice place to live. But when situations like the hurricane debris removal, it has me VERY upset. First and foremost, the owners of this complex have so much money; they could have had this all taken care of by the company that has been removing yard waste all along. To request funding from FEMA and getting it, has made me ashamed to live here.
Do the owners realize all the thousands of people who ACTUALLY NEED the help from FEMA and this place has the nerve to take it away from those who truly need FEMA’s help? Is this place so greedy and uncaring to even think of asking FEMA to pay for our debris removal?
We have all cleaned our own yards, placed it at our driveways for our regular yard debris company to collect. Why should they not get the opportunity to continue as they always have? Maybe they would have to pick up an extra day, but we are paying for them already. So where does the money go for not letting them remove the yard waste? We never get a discount in our fees here, they only go up and up.
As far as trees down and heavy removal, homeowners are required to do their own and the yard waste should still pick it up. Maybe on a special run, but they can do this, too. The trees down, etc. within the Villages property should also be the responsibility of the owners. Asking FEMA to pay for our debris removal is the most insulting and unforgiving thing I have ever seen. SHAME, SHAME, SHAME!!!!!!!
When I heard the company from FEMA left and did not finish the job, I felt The Villages owners got what they deserve for taking advantage of a service they should never had applied to.
