A man with a “Business Purposes Only” drivers license was arrested Thursday night on a drunk driving charge after a traffic stop on U.S. 301.
William Clarence Fowler Jr., 42, of Wildwood was at the wheel of a green Ford pickup at 11:40 p.m. and was pulled over when he failed to maintain a single lane of traffic, according to an arrest report from the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office.
Fowler, who appeared to have been drinking, handed the deputy a permit that “clearly stated ‘Business Purposes Only’ and was set to expire within the next 20 minutes,” the report said. He claimed his lawyer was working to get his license reinstated.
Fowler denied he had been drinking, but admitted he takes Xanax for his back.
In the back of the truck, the deputy discovered a small cooler filled with ice, New Amsterdam vodka and Michelob Ultra beer. Methamphetamine, marijuana and Ecstasy were also found in the vehicle.
Fowler failed field sobriety exercises and refused to submit to a breath test.
He was taken into custody and booked at the Sumter County Detention Center on $4,000 bond.
