A grandmother and her granddaughter were arrested Tuesday in a shoplifting incident at Bealls on U.S. Hwy. 441 in Lady Lake.

Betty Carrol Labruyere, 71, and Katie Leann Bell, 29, both of Fruitland Park, were arrested by Sumter County sheriff’s deputies after they attempted to leave the store with merchandise for which they had not paid.

Bell had been arrested this past December by Lady Lake police on a charge of petit theft.

Labruyere had been arrested in 1976 by Orlando police on a charge of theft.

Both women were taken into custody and booked at the Sumter County Detention Center. Each posted $1,000 bond and have been released.
