Man from Wildwood’s Peppertree Apartments arrested on DUI after caught driving with no license plate

Jonathan Wyatt Saunders

A man who lives in the Peppertree Apartments in Wildwood was arrested on a drunk driving charge after he was caught driving a vehicle with no license plate.

Jonathan Wyatt Saunders, 21, was driving a black Ford Mustang at about 6:30 p.m. Sunday on U.S. 301 when a police officer noticed the vehicle did not have a license plate, according to an arrest report from the Wildwood Police Department.

The officer suspected Saunders had been drinking. He failed field sobriety exercises. He refused to submit to a breath test and when the police officer began explaining the consequences of refusal, Saunders used vulgar language and gestures and spit on the officer.

Saunders was arrested on charges of driving under the influence and battery on a police officer. He was booked at the Sumter County Detention Center. Bond was set at $6,000.
