Are the postal stations a dumping ground in Florida’s Friendliest Hometown?
A Community Development District supervisor thinks so.
CDD 2 Bill Schikora has called the matter to the attention of the members of the Amenity Authority Committee.
“It’s trashy looking. It looks terrible,” he said.
He told the AAC on Wednesday that one of the contributing factors is the aluminum collection barrels located at the postal stations north of County Road 466. Aluminum cans are collected from the barrels by the Lake Sumter Lions, who in July took over the collection from the Orange Blossom Lions Club.
Schikora suggested that the unintended consequence of the collection has encouraged Villagers to deposit old phonebooks and other unwanted items at the postal stations.
AAC member John Wilcox concurred with Schikora’s assessment.
“I think it’s an issue,” Wilcox said.
He said he visited several postal stations and saw the same thing.
He said he specifically saw phonebooks piled up at the Woodbury and Piedmont postal stations.
“They did not look like they had just been put there. They looked like they’ve been through the weather,” Wilcox said.
In the aftermath of Hurricane Irma, the postal stations became a dumping ground for debris.
