Cynthia Lou Thomas

A Village of Caroline woman has been identified in a lineup in connection with a shoplifting incident earlier this month at Lake Sumter Landing.

Cynthia Lou Thomas, 66, shortly after noon Nov. 6 entered Lime Light Apparel Gifts and Accessories at 1037 Canal St. and selected several pieces of merchandise, according to an arrest report from the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office.

She concealed and donned a total of five items on her person and then proceeded to pay for other items with her credit card. She left the store with a total of unpurchased items valued at $204.97.

The incident was captured on video surveillance.

Lime Light Apparel Gifts and Accessories is located on Canal Street at Lake Sumter Landing.

The business owner identified Thomas in a photo lineup, who had been tracked down through her credit card information.

Thomas was interviewed by a deputy Tuesday at her home on Mayesville Way. The deputy showed Thomas photos of the stolen merchandise and she produced one of the shirts which had been taken. The shirt was valued at $74.99.

“What do I need to do to pay restitution to her?” Thomas asked the deputy.

She characterized the incident as “a terrible mistake.”

She was arrested on a charge of petit theft and booked at the Sumter County Detention Center. Bond was set at $1,000.
