A 32-year-old man who allegedly threw a drink at two individuals in June at World of Beer in Brownwood is poised to escape prosecution in the case.
Jeffrey Michael Welling fled World of Beer on June 24 after throwing a drink at two individuals, slapping one on the hand and then grabbing the other, according to an arrest report from the Wildwood Police Department. Welling then fled in a silver car.
A Wildwood police officer spotted Welling getting out of his car, and ordered him to stop. Instead, Welling fled on foot. The officer caught Welling and was then assisted by other officers. Welling also resisted the officer when he tried to handcuff him.
Welling entered a plea of no contest in the case Nov. 29 in Sumter County Court. He was placed in a pre-trial diversion program.
However, Welling continues to face multiple theft charges in a separate case. He was working as an usher at the Barnstorm Theater in Brownwood when he was arrested in March after allegedly pocketing rent money at an apartment complex. His next court date is a status conference set for March 13.
Welling had been arrested in December 2016 for violating a domestic violence injunction.
