Teen fatally shot after sports event at Vanguard High School in Ocala

A student at Vanguard High School in Ocala was fatally shot Monday night after a sports event.

Jeffrey Scott, 18, was pronounced dead early Wednesday morning.

A second student, Marcus Cooper, was critically injured in the shooting.

Ocala police indicated there was an altercation off-campus involving several young men. One was badly beaten and fled the scene. The victim’s two friends, driving a gold Toyota Camry, went to his residence to look for him. When they arrived, three males in a white Mazda blocked them in near the entrance of Pavilion Oaks, exited the vehicle and an altercation ensued. At that time shots were fired.

Evidence has been collected and the investigation is ongoing. No arrests have been made.
