Law enforcement partnering on stepped-up New Year’s DUI patrols in Marion County

The Florida Highway Patrol is partnering with the Ocala Police Department, the Belleview Police Department, the Dunnellon Police Department and the Marion County Sheriff’s Department in a concentrated enforcement effort with focus on impaired driving on New Year’s Eve continuing into New Year’s Day.
Additional troopers, officers and deputies will be patrolling the roadways in Marion County on New Year’s Eve with specific emphasis on identifying and removing impaired drivers from the roadways.
“Impaired driving puts drivers, passengers, and pedestrians at risk, and each year it claims the lives of too many people,” said Colonel Gene S. Spaulding, director of the Florida Highway Patrol. “If you drink, be responsible and have a designated driver to get you to your destination safely. There is never an excuse for impaired driving.”
To Arrive Alive, always:
• Driver sober, never drive impaired;
• Buckle up, every time;
• If you do drink, plan ahead. Designate a sober driver or use a ride
• If you see an impaired driver on the road, call *FHP(*347) or 911. This could save a life.
