A 25-year-old Ocala man was arrested after being found with marijuana and a stolen weapon on Wednesday in Marion County.
Marion County sheriff’s deputies conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle for speeding at 3500 block of South Pine, according to an arrest report. Deputies spoke with the driver, 25-year-old Kameron McCray Mitchell, and could smell an odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle. When deputies asked Mitchell about the odor, he admitted he had marijuana in the vehicle, pointing to the glove box. A vehicle search turned up a mason jar containing eight individual baggies with green leafy substances that field tested positive for marijuana. Deputies also discovered a .32-caliber handgun that was revealed to be stolen after a computer search on the weapon. A loaded Smith and Wesson .40-caliber M&P handgun was also found in the driver’s side door.
Mitchell denied that the marijuana was his. He also told deputies that someone else had been driving the vehicle prior to him. Mitchell told deputies that the .32-caliber weapon belonged to his father, who is the registered owner of the vehicle.
Mitchell did not have a concealed weapons permit and said that the Smith and Wesson handgun was his. He was placed under arrest and transported to Marion County Jail. Bond was set at $1,000.
