An intoxicated Ocala man was arrested after wielding a sledgehammer at the door of a home on Thursday in Marion County.
Marion County sheriff’s deputies responded to Nashua Way in reference to a domestic disturbance. Upon arrival, deputies made contact with the victim who advised she and 66-year-old George Henry Vannostrand got into a verbal altercation due to his alcohol consumption. Vannostrand became upset when the victim took his water bottle filled with gin and began yelling at her. As the victim walked toward her room, Vannostrand pushed her, prompting her to lock herself inside her room. Vannostrand attempted to gain entry, but then went to the garage. The victim locked the door leading from the garage into the residence fearing that Vannostrand would become physical again. Vannostrand started striking the door with a sledgehammer.
Deputies spoke with Vannostrand, who was highly intoxicated and advised that he struck the door with a sledgehammer to gain access to the residence. Vannostrand was placed under arrest and transported to the Marion County Jail.
